Wastewater Project

The City of Rio Dell has been moving forward with a Wastewater Improvement Project to address Cease and Desist Order No. R1-2005-0034, which requires a new effluent disposal system, and to address aging infrastructure at the existing Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF). To date we have completed the first steps of the project, as identified by the State Water Quality Control Board, which are the necessary environmental documents such as the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the Environmental Impact Report (EIR), the Notice of Determination (NOP) and the Final Facilities Plan (FFP), as required to move forward with the improvement project.

The proposed improvement projects include: replacing our failed Comminuter (screening system) with new Solids and Grit Removal equipment, limiting foreign materials from entering the plant head works, thus saving maintenance costs to our existing wastewater pumps, improving our current sludge management practices by adding a Mechanical Dewatering Device and building a new covered sludge storage area; both key in effective Sludge Management Practices, and upgrading our current Chlorine Gas Disinfection System, which is extremely toxic and potentially hazardous, with an on-site Sodium Hypochlorite Generation System, which significantly improves safety for the Community and Operations Staff.
